The Eating In London site is an extension of the popular Instagram blog @eating_in_london which James Bellis established in 2018, showcasing everything from street food finds, exquisite fine-dining to cocktail bars and everything in between.
As a content creator James experienced first-hand the growth of the platform, with demand from both Londoners and visitors to the capital who needed inspiration on where to eat and drink. After eating at a LOT of wonderful places (hard life!) James began to realise how difficult it was to keep track, not to mention the influx of new places that would pop-up every week.
With an abundance of places and few reliable sources, there were limited ways to filter through the clutter. From Instagram which is image-led with every place dubbed as ‘exceptional’, to Trip Advisor, which lacks in quality and features every man and his dog. Lastly, there’s the classic Timeout – a great editorial source, but just another mag with advertisements underlying the majority of content. This is what led founder James to realize something was missing!
This sparked the idea for the Eating In London site….
James’ idea to expand the Eating In London site came to him when he managed to escape to Porto briefly back in late August of 2020.
He imagined how great it would be if there was an all encompassing platform that was a bridge between the likes of Tripadvisor, Instagram and Timeout that could be relied upon as a trusted resource for the best recommendations across the city.
James believed that there were many incredible businesses in hospitality that are worthy of more attention and were not receiving the limelight they truly deserved. With a plan starting to emerge, and serendipity leading him to cross paths with some industry contacts who offered their valuable insight, James decided to grow a team of modern day experts who could be trusted and spent time vetting places, just for you.
The Eating In London team was born, enabling us to provide you with a reliable source of recommendations from day one. This includes Georgie, our Head of Editorial – a restaurant writer and PR communications expert, who has worked with and reviewed hundreds of the best restaurants in London and internationally. Having worked on both sides of the industry, James felt her expertise combined with his own offered a powerful dynamic along with the whole host of other leading hospitality creatives they are recruiting.
