Feast on this Feta and Tomato Bake
This TikTok trooper has put the video app on the map with us foodies. Simple and utterly effective every time, this gorgeous Greek-inspired tomato and feta bake has made international headlines: pretty impressive for a dish that is made of only a handful of ingredients!
From fettuccine to farfalle, this sweet cherry tomato and salty feta combo can be mixed with whichever pasta you desire. Marwa Alkhalaf, Co-Owner of Nutshell in Covent Garden believes however there’s a perfect way to switch up this viral video recipe, adding: ‘Bake your feta to the melting point (and no further so it doesn’t become clumpy).
Then, mix it with grains… it doesn’t have to be pasta! The saltiness and creaminess of the feta goes perfectly with any type of grains, legumes or even vegetables. Think farro, maftul, butter beans, chickpeas or even cauliflower. Finally, balance the richness of your feta with some acidity and freshness with a sprinkle of sumac or lemon zest and herbs of choice.’
Meanwhile, if you go gooey for garlic, why not hop on another trend upon this trend and swap the feta for Boursin? Celina Leroyer, Senior Brand Manager adds – ‘Boursin’s rich flavour and crumbly, creamy texture bring a tasty twist to the feta trend. The punchy garlic with fragrant parsley and chives in Boursin cheese elevates the flavour of this dish even further, resulting in a really creamy and indulgent pasta sauce’
Mind-Blowing Miniature Pancake Cereal
Shrove Tuesday may have been and gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have pancakes in your life. Try them in a totally new way with the trendy TikTok mini pancake cereal hack. This cereal/pancake hybrid can be pimped with your chosen toppings, and there’s even been a debate circulating on whether you’d be a (excuse the pun) ‘cereal killer’ with the addition of milk, which either makes it or breaks it.
Realsimple.com says milk is a mistake. ‘My cereal-style pancakes were soggy almost instantly. If you’re partial to letting your cereal sit and get its ‘mush on’ you’ll love this. But I would instead recommend serving your mini silver dollars with some blueberries or banana slices, chocolate chips, syrup, sprinkles, and/or a generous warm Nutella / nut-butter drizzle.’ TikToker’s, we’ll leave it to you to decide.
Get on Track with this Tortilla Hack
Tacos were so last week, and quesadillas the week before: it’s tortillas that are now back on track! With a surplus of time, we’ve become savvier, and this has led us to the birth of the tortilla hack. A trick that won’t be going anywhere fast, this both brilliantly practical and creative new method is a quick one, two, three folds and without any mess whilst you empty your fridge with ingredients of your choice. This includes a sweet option switch up as seen on The Reluctant Entertainer who has created a dessert twist that has been coined the ‘Raspberry & Nutella Tortilla Wrap’ which also features almonds and mascarpone cheese. Yum.
Many have been taken aback by this ingenious hack that has emerged from the relatively new app. Stephanie from iamfoodblog.com adds – ‘the TikTok wrap hack is the most genius way to fold a tortilla wrap’. It has become so popular, that people have also been ordering their own tortilla press. Waitrose has reported a 189% increase in tortilla searches and sales whilst mexgrocer.com saw in January alone a 400% boost in sales of tortilla presses.
Ace it with Accordion Potatoes
Bored of baked and done with dauphinoise? This year it’s all about accordion potatoes. With its name inspired by the musical instrument, this clever new potato hack will make you look like a pro in the kitchen, and with very little effort required. Created using skewers and coated in garlic and fresh herbs, accordion potatoes crisp up beautifully and are this year’s hottest potato upgrade.
‘Accordion Potatoes are the new TikTok craze, and for good reason’ says Capri Lilly from Good Food Baddie. ‘When baked, they have a crispy outer layer, and flavoured with savoury garlic butter and fresh herbs are much easier to make than they look.’ And of course, with anything that goes viral, it doesn’t stop there. These posh potatoes can also be used to create the ultimate breakfast sandwich as created by The Vegan Aloha Kitchen.
Moreish Mug Cake
Fresh homemade cake in under five minutes? Yes please. Calling all lazy bakers, TikTok’s viral Nutella mug cake is the recipe for you. With over 10K shares, this one portion dessert hack will swiftly satisfy cravings, and (aside from a healthy dose of Nutella), the best thing about this cake method is that it doesn’t require an oven and is ‘baked’ right in the microwave in just over a minute – genius!
Ideal on its own, dusted lightly with some sugar or served with a scoop of ice cream, other mug cake mix-ups that have blitzed across the internet include the Oreo mug cake, and the brilliant Biscoff mug cake which is arguably even more popular with over 33K shares.
