For the past 30 years, we have had plenty of cheap, generic rosé, until a new, serious ‘pink wine’ category has eventually emerged. We’ve done the hard work for you and sampled some of the Best Rosé Wines for Summer available in the UK right now.
The result is this compact list of 6 bottles that you might want to stock up on this season. It’s time to see life through rose-tinted glasses again! Certainly, Rosé is now firmly established among wine lovers, in all its different styles, ranging from sweet to bone dry.
1. La Gioiosa Prosecco Rosé Millesimato
Available at Majestic for £11.99
Definitely, Prosecco has become a staple sparkling wine in the UK and is no longer reserved for special occasions. As with any wine category, quality varies greatly depending on the producer.
This vintage Prosecco from La Gioiosa stands out from the crowd, with a vinous character that is rare to find among other brands. Moreover, this particular cuvée is a blend of Glera, Prosecco’s traditional grape variety, and Pinot Noir, which adds colour to the wine. Truly, it is a fabulous drink to enjoy with summer salads or pre-dinner canapés.
2. 3B Rosé Extra Bruto Filipa Pato
Available at Hedonism for £18.30
Daughter of one of the most prominent winemakers in Portugal, Filipa Pato produces ‘authentic wines without make-up’. 3B is a crisp, unfiltered sparkling rosé made with two Portuguese indigenous grape varieties, Baga and Bical, typical from the Bairrada winegrowing region – hence the three Bs in the name.
Furthermore, it’s the perfect accompaniment to a roasted salmon with new potatoes or an indulgent lobster roll with French fries.
3. Rutini Trumpeter Extra Brut Rosé de Malbec
Available at Paladar for £27.50
All the way from Argentina, Trumpeter is a traditional-method sparkling wine, which means it is produced via the same process as champagne. It is made from 100% Malbec grapes, so it’s a bit of an unusual expression of the iconic red grape variety.
The wine spent 16 months in contact with the lees and reveals delicate aromas of apples and strawberries, as well as rhubarb. Also, you can serve it with baked cod, mussels, or simply on its own as an aperitif.
4. Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose
Available at Waitrose for £9.99
