I headed down to Twickenham to discover modern Indian cooking by acclaimed Head Chef Yousuf Mohammed at Tsaretta Spice Restaurant.

Bringing warmth, sunshine, as well as an abundance of greenery to Twickenham, Tsaretta Spice is a lush oasis, perfect for long, leisurely lunches, post-work cocktails, and weekend feasts with friends.

Head Chef Yousuf Mohammed, who worked at Dishoom, Tamarind, and Bombay Brasserie before opening Tsaretta Spice, created the tapas-style sharing menu.

As a matter of fact, Yousuf’s youth and travels around the subcontinent inspired the food.

The restaurant reinvents Indian cuisine by using local products and spices from India’s top farms.

Dishes like Crispy Chilli Aubergine, Punjabi Fish Fingers, Chicken Kebab Corn Dogs, as well as Lamb Goli Kebabs celebrate sharing.

Tawa Machli (pan-fried sea bass fillet served on a curry leaf), Kolapuri Duck (chargrilled duck fillets marinated with fennel, pepper, and stone flower), and Goan Pepper Chicken (chicken cooked in a tomato, fennel, and pepper sauce) are some of the lighter items on the menu.

Meat-free, plant-based, and gluten-free options are also available. His menus are a labour of love and go beyond the curry house model.

As a matter of fact, the Gulab Martini has vanilla vodka, pink gin, white Crème de Cacao, rose water, and chia seeds, while the Spicy Pimpri Martini has tequila, strawberry puree, elderflower cordial, Prosecco, and chilli.

Wines, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks are on the extensive wine list.

Tsaretta Spice is a must-visit Twickenham restaurant with two successful locations in Méribel and a third in Twickenham.
